Web App: tweetshrink

This item was filed under [ tweets, web apps ]

tweetshrink is a web app that helps users shave a few extra characters off tweets without having to actively edit those tweets.

Features:

  • automatically shrinks tweets by “tweaking” a character or two here and there
  • available via the web or via tweetshrink API

The Good:

Using magic and “guesstimation” tweetshrink is able to shorten tweets by a few characters so that users can try to fit under the 140 character limit. The results aren’t always predictable (Where should we go for dinner tonight? = whr shld we go 4 dinner 2nite?), but they are interesting. TweetDeck makes use of the tweetshrink API.

The Not-so-Good:

tweetshrink shortens tweets well enough, but some may find the results a bit too “txt-ish”.

This is also useful to get a sense of how the creators of tweetshrink envisioned it being used: http://tweetshrink.com/api
