Web App: Power Twitter

This item was filed under [ web apps ]

Power Twitter is a Firefox add-on that adds features to the Twitter web interface.

Features:

  • search
  • search scoped to a specific user
  • status history peeking on mouseover
  • Facebook status updates
  • inline YouTube, Flickr, and TwitPic
  • URL expansion
  • URL translation to page titles
  • open web update (news feed) mapping

The Good:

Power Twitter enhances the existing Twitter web interface by adding some very cool features and functions. Being able to see where shortened links point is a nifty thing, but far better (we think) is the display of YouTube videos and Flickr/TwitPic photos inline. No more clicking on, and on, and on to get to them. There is also a “peek” feature where you can see updates from a user by hovering over their avatar. It all fits right over your existing Twitter page.

The Not-so-Good:

Power Twitter is still a little “buggy” and the folks at 83 Degrees continue to work those out. For example, it won’t post the part of your update that appears after a “&” symbol. The developers are working hard on improvements and bug fixes, so things should get better quickly.
