PeopleBrowsr is a web app that allows users to manage a host of social media accounts (including Twitter) from a single UI.

Features:

web UI is a dashboard for social media accounts, including Twitter, Seesmic, Flickr, Facebook and FriendFeed

all Twitter operations supported

tagging and groups can be created

schedule tweets for future publishing

TwitPic support

search feature across several social media platforms

massive amount of custom configuration available

reports

detailed profile information can be created

tutorials

view conversation threads

URL shrinking

The Good:

Where to begin? PeopleBrowsr is a dream come true for serious social media users. You can do all the usual Twitter operations and parse and display tweets in an almost endless variety of ways (as well as generating reports), but it is the ability of PeopleBrowsr to stretch across different social media applications that really makes it powerful. You can, for example, view (and search) user info in Twitter, FaceBook and Flickr all in one dashboard. Views are in “stacks” and can be configured as lists, avatar grids or mapped with Google Maps.

The Group and Tag features give PeopleBrowsr one of the main benefits of TweetDeck, without the Adobe Air issues. The Reports feature provides a huge amount of detailed information about how and whom you tweet, as well as other things like StockTwits recommendations. You can post from the dashboard directly to Twitter, FriendFeed, FaceBook or Identi.ca.

PeopleBrowsr packs an amazing amount of stuff into its UI.

The Not-so-Good:

As good as PeopleBrowsr is, there were a few things that we would like to see in future releases (beta coming soon): (1) the ability to manage more than one Twitter account from the same dashboard, (2) the ability to view stats on links tweeted and (3) a bookmarklet/widget tool to allow for tweeting directly from a web page or blog post. **Note: PeopleBrowsr has fixed (1) above – users are now able to manage more than one Twitter account from the dashboard.**

Tweetwave.com rates it: ★★★★★

Inline reply, re-tweet, DM for any tweet or user

Sliders for setting auto-refresh rates, based on your needs at a particular moment

Video replies for inline tweets, using Seesmic.com video services

The Good:

tweetvisor is a great tool for managing multiple Twitter accounts. It allows you to view your timeline and friends timeline, make groups and perform searches and tag results. There are all kinds of tools in tweetvisor. Multiple account management is a big plus, but the ability to make groups of friends/followers is a huge bonus. Search topics can be made “hot topics” and tracked on an ongoing basis. Almost every feature of tweetvisor is configurable by the user. tweetvisor could well be “TweetDeck plus”. On top of all that, it is browser based, so you don’t have to worry about API limits.

The Not-so-Good:

tweetvisor is good, good, good, but if we could point out one thing on this side of the ledger it would be that there is almost too much jammed into the UI. All kinds of useful information is tucked away as you access features. It just felt a little “cramped”. One other thing: it would be great to be able to schedule tweets for future posting. There.

Tweetwave.com rates it: ★★★★★

HootSuite is the web app formerly known as BrightKit, a Twitter toolbox that allows users to manage multiple Twitter profiles, schedule tweets and track links.

Features:

easy to create account process

ability to add multiple editors for each Twitter profile

post live or pre-schedule tweets

search Twitter based on keywords

all usual Twitter operations supported

add RSS feeds and Google AdSense to Twitter profiles

it’s Canadian

The Good:

HootSuite does just about everything you could want when it comes to managing your Twitter profile(s). Its list of features is lengthy, and there are a few that are rather interesting. HootSuite is designed for Twitter power users with communities that need “feeding”. The ability to add “editors” to a Twitter profile is key there, like having co-bloggers. Adding RSS feeds is a very useful feature. Perhaps best of all is the ability to monitor and manage multiple Twitter profiles from within one web application.

The Not-so-Good:

HootSuite has so many good features, it was a challenge to come up with things we didn’t like. We can, however, make a few suggestions for improvement. First, there is no auto-refresh feature, which is a bit frustrating. Secondly, although you can follow people from within HootSuite, there is no way to unfollow, nor is there a way to view your friends/followers. Thirdly, there is no way to mark a tweet as a favorite. With those features, HootSuite would knock it out of the park. One further thing: HootSuite incorporates Google AdSense into its links (half the user’s AdSense and half HootSuite’s). Monetization of Twitter may not appeal to everyone.

** Since we first reviewed HootSuite on 12 Feb 09, the developers have made some improvements to the statistics features, and it is now possible to mark tweets as favorites. Still waiting on the other things we mentioned. **

Tweetwave.com rates it: ★★★★★

The Good:

Tweet Later is an excellent “productivity tool” for Twitter, allowing for multiple Twitter accounts and the scheduling of tweets. It also allows you to auto-follow those who follow your account and provides an auto-welcome feature to send a custom message to new followers via DM or in the public timeline. You can also schedule and publish tweets that don’t go to Twitter, but rather to your personal tweet stream via RSS, XML or javascript.

The Not-so-Good:

While the features and functionality of Tweet Later are great, the UI feels a little bit “clunky” and perhaps not as slick or shiny as some others out there. That is more a “style” complaint rather than a “substance” complaint. Tweet Later definitely gets the job done.
