Web App: Tweet3

This item was filled under [ web apps ]

Tweet3 is a web app that allows users to manage multiple twitter accounts at the same time.

Features:

  • manage multiple twitter accounts
  • tag favorite tweets
  • @reply and DM
  • character countdown for tweets
  • snapshot of latest tweet and other user social media info (allows configuration of tweet submission to facebook)
  • allows users to follow others on twitter

The Good:

Tweet3, although still in beta, is packed with great features that allow for easy management of multiple twitter accounts. Switching between accounts is easy and the visuals used to highlight certain account information are very handy indeed. The UI is simple and clean.

The Not-so-Good:

The thing to remember about Tweet3 is that it manages twitter accounts, not tweets. That is, it does not have the ability to group or filter tweets like TweetDeck. For straight-line management of multiple twitter accounts, there is little to complain about in Tweet3. One little, tiny complaint is that it appears that manual refreshing of tweets is required (but that may change in later releases).

Update: Since we posted our review of Tweet3 on 27 December 2008, there have been some upgrades to the UI. Auto-refresh is now available for Tweet3, the overall appearance has tightened up and improved and the analytics feature is very useful (and graphically appealing too). Tweetwave.com rating improves to 4.5/5.

Web App: EasyTweets

This item was filled under [ web apps ]

EasyTweets is an online Twitter management tool that allows users to promote and grow their business by leveraging the power of microblogging.

Features:

  • manage multiple Twitter accounts
  • schedule tweets to post in the future
  • track brands or any keywords
  • SMS or email alerts when your brand or keyword is mentioned on Twitter
  • monitor trends on Twitter
  • automatically post RSS feed content

The Good:

EasyTweets is an application that packs a great many features, and could be one of the most powerful Twitter tools available. The list of features is long, and all of them are useful. Individual users can benefit from EasyTweets, but it is particularly powerful in a business setting.

The Not-so-Good:

The only real downside to EasyTweets is that it is a fee-based service. Prices range from $24 per month to $99 per month, all on a pay-as-you-go basis. There is a free plan, but it has significantly reduced functionality.

Desktop App: Tweetdeck

This item was filled under [ desktop apps ]

TweetDeck is an Adobe Air desktop application that allows users to send and view tweets.

Features:

  • all Twitter operations supported
  • ability to search, filter and group tweets
  • auto-update of threads within Twitter
  • Twitpic support
  • URL shortening via several different services at user’s option
  • shorten tweets via Shrinktweet**
  • translate tweets into any number of languages**
  • in addition to TwitScoop and 12seconds video, now integration with StockTwits**
  • ability to display and select recent hashtags from drop-down menu**

The Good:

TweetDeck does an excellent job of not only sending and receiving tweets, but of allowing users to manage how tweets are grouped and displayed. Additional viewing columns are created within TweetDeck each time a new filter or group is applied. This is a powerful feature and is especially useful for “power tweeters”. The extra features added by TweetDeck are very impressive.**

The Not-so-Good:

For all the great stuff that TweetDeck lets users do, there are a couple of things that are irritating shortfalls. Sometimes TweetDeck gets its Twitter API request limit numbers messed up and “hangs”. A bigger irritant, though, is the lack of multi-account support. That would truly give it “rock star” status. Finally, TweetDeck is still in beta, so everyone should be patient.

**TweetDeck has recently released a new version (v0.21.5b) with some additional features. Those are noted herein by a **. Tweetwave.com rating is now 4.0/5**

Further updated review:

TweetDeck is now on version 0.25b. The principal changes since we last reviewed TweetDeck are the addition of Facebook integration and plenty of new bugs. The Facebook integration is a good feature which adds one more social media tool to the TweetDeck toolbox. The extra bugs and hang times have been discouraging, but the TweetDeck guys are working on it, we’re sure. Our Tweetwave.com rating remains at 4.0/5.
